I was driving so I have no photo. It was a huge black or very dark brown bird, it stooped and dived straight down like a falcon and caught a small rodent off the front yard of some house. I could see it clutching the rodent in one of the talons when it flew off, it was also being harassed and trailed by several crows, and those crows looked quite small comparing to the bird. My first thought was golden eagle but I only saw them once in the reservoir area which is about 4 miles away. San Btuno, Northern California. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a Crow or Raven being harassed by Grackles.

Thanks, we have a lot of crows in that area though it is the first time I see one hunting like a raptor. Not sure about grackles, I don't think I've seen any around all these years though they are supposed to be residents in some of the areas here.
