Hi there,

I wanted to submit a checklist of birds to ebird from a recent visit to Portugal,
to count some lifebirds I have not seen yet.
However, the spot is one of the main tourist attractions in Lisbon, and I noticed
there were also there 6 Indian peafowl roaming the main grounds, almost certainly these were
domesticated/'pets' for the grounds.
My question is: should these be counted as well on my checklist, or
else disregarded/not counted?

Best, Joe

I would not include domestics on an ebird checklist but I have seen where others have, it's really up to you.

New Year's Resolutions:
Get my lifelist to 300 (currently 293)
Finally get Mountain Quail and Vesper Sparrow
Top my previous single year best (2011-253) I'm at 193 as of 5/12.

I do know that ebird has Indian peafowl on their standard list for LA, CA and helmeted guinea fowl (domestic) also, although neither is native. Peafowl showed up on my life list after I entered it but guinea fowl did not. I don't know their reasoning.

Ebird has a Indian Peafowl (Domestic Type) listing. I think it would be fine to list them as that (or omit them, if you choose), as long as they were free roaming and not caged.
Life List: 560

Latest birds: Purple Sandpiper, Ross's Goose, White-winged Crossbill,

2013: 362 species
