I caught a glimpse of this creature/animal/bird ??? It flew into the tree, so I'm thinking bird obviously, but it sure looks strange.

Is it a Swift?

I saw it high in the mountains, at the top of a mountain in an area with a lot of quaking aspens, in Southern Utah around the Cedar Breaks, Kolob Reservoir area.

Thanks!

It's definitely a bird, because you see the vent and outer tail feathers, but not a swift. Swifts don't really perch. I can't say with a lot of certainty what it is though.

Do you think it's a fledgling of some kind maybe?

Ryan, Thanks for the vote of confidence, but it clearly moved, and it's clearly fluffy. Maybe you're looking at someone else's picture. ;)

Doesn't look like a fledgling - it has a pretty long tail. Fledglings usually have short tails. Looks like a normal, average bird tail to me, though I can't even guess what species.

Oh my goodness!!! I have been looking at the picture backwards this whole time. I was thinking that I was looking at the front of the bird, and it looked a little "turtle shaped" to me. But, thanks for setting me straight. I can see now that we are looking at the back of the bird, at its tail. Wow....I think I've been looking at the computer screen too long! You are all so patient!
