Some sort of Shrike, perhaps?

Not that I'm aware of unless there is another shrike besides the Northern and Loggerhead.

Western Kingbird?

Western kingbird I'd say. One of the kingbirds, anyway, don't know what else is around there.

Yeah, in retrospect, my guess was pretty much wrong in every way.

Western kingbird gets my vote.

The only reason I knew any different was the first thing that popped into my head was loggerhead shrike. I looked it up. dead wrong. So, no worries. I did it myself. :P

I have another one. I was embarrassed to post the pictures because they're so blurry. But I was hoping one of the amazing people on this board can go by the shape and size.

It was sitting on a line running across an intersection. No bushes are anything around. Every time I tried to sneak up on it the darn thing would fly away. This is the best I could get. I'm investing in a much better lens so Hopefully I can get better shots.

I have A LOT of Kingbirds around here, and the latest pics remind me of how they sit when they are perched on the powerlines around here. I would say the latest bird is also a Kingbird as well. It's hard to distinguish Western from Eastern without good coloring. If he had a yellow underside when he flew away then it could be a Cassin's or a Western. If it was more black and white, then I would lean more toward the Eastern.

Latest additions- Cedar Waxwing, Yellow Warbler, Savannah Sparrow, Eared Grebe, Eastern Kingbird, Osprey, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, Gyrfalcon, Black-Chinned Hummingbird, California Quail, Caspian Tern, Bullock's Oriole.
