I've looked at hundreds of pictures on websites trying to figure it out - and while I can come close (like the white eye stripe or the stomach) the coloring and the wing markings are off.

Hope someone can help me here. This bird comes every afternoon to my fruit & nut feeder in Southeastern PA. I've never seen more than one at a time, but this one has been coming for over a month. It's larger than a finch but smaller than a bluejay. It looks close to the shape and size of a catbird (I have those too so know it's not one of them!).
I've looked at hundreds of pictures on websites trying to figure it out - and while I can come close (like the white eye stripe or the stomach) the coloring and the wing markings are off.

A male comes to my feeder, but he is very very shy and quick to take flight. Even if I am looking at him through the window, he seems to know if I am looking and then he is gone!thanks for the quick reply! I haven't seen the male (he'd be hard to miss) - he must be hiding
What I have learned so far.... just because you think that bird is just another _____ (house sparrow, chickadee, crow or whatever you are used to seeing) look a little closer... you just might be surprised!
