Blue Grosbeaks are never ho-hum!

The funny thing is, I was right next to a canal that feeds the lake and saw a flash of blue. I raised my camera, took off the lens, focused.... and it flew away. I walked back to my car to try the other side of the lake (no waterfowl to be seen) and drove away. It followed me and landed on a bush. I lowered my window and took the shot from my car. Then it started singing it's little heart out. I got off about 6 shots before it decided to fly back to the lake. :)

I love it when stuff like that happens.

I've seen a few here in the Central Valley, but I've yet to hear one sing. BTW, just so you know, saying "new lifer" is a bit redundant. By definition all lifers are new.

New Year's Resolutions:
Get my lifelist to 300 (currently 293)
Finally get Mountain Quail and Vesper Sparrow
Top my previous single year best (2011-253) I'm at 193 as of 5/12.

They're everywhere here in Georgia. I have a male that chills in my yard every week.

Down in Hephzibah they're more populous than up in Columbia County. I often see them across the street from the entrance to Phinizy Swamp Nature Park along with Loggerhead Shrikes and Kestrels, sometimes Meadowlarks as well.

Speaking of Blue Grosbeaks. I was sitting on my property in front of the mulberry tree. Look who decided to pay me a visit?
