Taken in Garden County Nebraska (Panhandle)

Two years ago, I "definately" identified these birds as Willets.

Two days ago, I ended up definately id'ing this bird as a Willet.

Then I put the two side by side, and they looked nothing alike! Now I am really confused.
Are they both Willets? If not, where have I gone wrong?

For starters, both have the blue-black legs. Both have longer than head straight, thick dark beaks. Both have short tails.
I have several shots of both, but no shots of either in flight with wings spread out.

You were right both times -- these are all Willets. The differences are the result of feather wear and fading.
