Is it just me or are some imgur photos not visible today? The photos aren't showing up for me.

I agree with Common Merganser. The coloring is consistent. The distinct separation of the head color from the neck and the uniform gray back with the white patch all point to Common Merganser, possibly first summer males?

While the second bird looks like a Ring-billed. (It's kind of a hard photo to id). I don't see dark (brown/black) primaries which I think even from this angle should be evident.

Thank you, Grandpa! And Fisherman. I was thinking they were females, but I'm just learning. The pic was actually taken in September. Here are a couple more of the gull, but if you can't ID that's okay. I was really more interested in the mergs.

If these photos were taken in September:

I think you may be right with Mergansers being females because of the dark eye.

At that time of year, Ebird has only Ring-billed and Herring Gulls near Duluth (not sure where on Lake Superior you took the photos) but apparently during the winter another six species are in the vicinity. So, with that bill, Ring-billed is the best bet.

In September, he's probably molting the outermost primaries, so the wingtips appear pale.
