Here are some terns from today in So Cal, Huntington Beach/Bolsa Chica.

1. Confirm Least Tern for lifer

I always feel less confident about Royal Tern, but that is my guess for these next two.

Agree with Least Tern. Yellow bill and white forehead.
Agree with Elegant Tern. Long Droopy red-orange bill.
Agree with Royal Terns. Heavyish yellowish bill on #4, dark primaries on #5.
Agree with Forster's for #3. Dark tipped orange bill and GISS.

Sometimes in this endeavour of identification, just when things seem to begin to create that whirpool, and I am willing to grasp any flotsam or for that matter jetsam at hand (Something about 'scraps from the master's table' come to mind . . but I digress). Too often it ends up being ephemeral.

Forster's Tern on left with orange bill and and Common Tern on right with . . .

No problem with using the photo for the comparison.

Not sure why we need a comparison, though...they look nothing alike. ;)
