Right now I am in CA, as you may know. I'm in the San Diego area. . . Which is very good for birding, so I will pick up lots of lifers.

I've already gotten one confirmed lifer; Bullock's Oriole. I also think I saw a Great-tailed Grackle, but I didn't get a good enough look at it to confirm. When I get pictures downloaded I will post them.

I have seen a lot of the common CA birds (bushtits, Anna's hummingbirds, crows, and jays, just to name a few.)

ABA list: 295 Latest: Swamp Sparrow
2013: 220

Yard List: 85 Latest: Violet-green Swallow, Tricolored Blackbird

I may live in San Diego County, buy my home and heart will always be in Missouri.

Have a great trip. Let me know if you will be heading up north to the general San Bernardino area at all and I might be able to point you in the right direction for some birds. I am not too familiar with San Diego area. All I know is that there is a Curlew Sandpiper around.

Check out Cabrillo National Monument and San Diego River Estuary. At the National Monument ask the Rangers about the 'Drip'. Also the cemetery just before the National Monument. I got 24 lifers there last year.

I'm somewhere in Escondido. . . not sure which part of it.

I got another common summer bird. (I'm asuming it's common here) Western Kingbird. That one I got a picture so when I download it I will post.

Welcome to California! I have been watching for a while now and not seen as many as you have already! (I'm a newbie, so I got alot more excited about the swarm of bushtits that visited my yard, and I figured out what those hoppy little puff balls were.)

All those great new birds to see - you are an inspiration. Have fun in your new location!

I'm going to some park today. . . Hoping for another lifer. Also going to the beach, not the best place for birds but I bet I can manage one lifer. I'll give a report when I get back.

@ DianeD- Thanks a ton!

Just got another lifer! Hooded Oriole. Also didn't get a picture of it. When I saw it I had my binocs, so I did confirm it. I went back inside and came out with my camera, and it was gone. Still haven't gone to that park. . . leaving soon.

Well I didn't get to go to that park. . . because my older siblings took to long getting ready. -_- But I did spend four hours at the beach. Sadly I didn't get any new birds. But I did see lots of Brown Pelicans, Western Gulls, and my favorite gull; Heermann's Gull! I also saw crows and pigeons.

Got one lifer on the 4th. . . Lazuli Bunting. Several males singing. . . it was at my aunt's house.

Today I got one while house hunting, Yellow-breasted Chat. Heard it and asumed it was a mockingbird. . . but for some reason I stayed; looking for it. It popped out and boy was I surprised!

Nice, a Yellow-breasted Chat while house hunting. Wish I had chats at my house (also wish I had Lazuli Bunting)!

How funny...Escondido in Spanish means "hidden". Maybe that is why you aren't sure where you are!

Well I managed to sneak one more lifer in, Hutton's Vireo. It took me a while to id it, but I finally got a good enough look to id it. I did get two pictures that aren't good at all, you can just make out that there's a bird.

I'm going to download the pictures of the trip, and post some.

Picture time!

Anna's Hummingbird was the first western bird that greeted me.

Posted Image

Black Phoebes were also abundant, but only one let me get a photo.

Orange variant House Finches are common in CA compared to Missouri.
