All taken in Garden County NE (panhandle)

1>Black-crowned Night Heron
June 2012
(Now that I have tentatively ID'd this one, I found that I had 7 other photos of them stored in my "dreaded" folder named "water things" for over two years, thinking that it was a gull of some sort. Yes, the pics were that bad, and yes, I am hopeless when it comes to identifying ducks, geese, gulls, sandpipers, and wading birds. So far, almost every female duck looks the same to me, as does all sandpiper like birds, and all gulls)

2> Bad picture in gray scale.
About the size of pheasants, maybe a bit taller, I think.
It flew over and landed on the road ahead of us and flew off again before I could change settings or focus in. Looked light brownish/golden brown, I think. It was a very quick landing/take-of. It startled me as bad as our car startled it. My husband may never let me drive again!
I was leaning more towards a heron, but it had been suggested to me to look at rails for the area. I just couldn't find anything there.

3> Cinnamon Teal Female (guessing here) ... so why, or why not?

4>Cowboy duck complete with kerchief. Must be the bad guy with the dark hat. (or is it a she?)
Possibly Red-breasted Merganser?

Wow! The colors on the last shot of the ibis in flight are spectacular!

How do you do that? Even from bad photos? I was thinking juv. great blue, maybe, but colors were wrong, I thought. Hadn't even considered a black-crown night heron. Once I found pictures of some, that sure looks right to me!
Thanks again for your help and guidance. Very much appreciated.

Some of these birds make me wish I could take decent pictures! I can usually figure out a lot of what I saw using my point-and-click, but I will never win any photography awards, for certain.
