Bad picture is making me second guess. Seems like a clean breast with well defined collar, and the tail posture is upright. Yet...

Another, another Song? Channel Islands NP (Prisoner's) 7/4/12

I think you can rule out Song because of the contrasting colors. Maybe a Female Indigo Bunting?

This little guy is stumping me. Possibly an out of focus Dark-Eyed Junco? I think you would have the Oregon race there, but someone from the area might be able to better comment.

I don't remember nesting Juncos on the channel islands at all. For that matter, I don't recall Lazuli Buntings, either.

I'm afraid I'm as stumped as everyone else.

For what its worth, I checked ebird and there were a fair number of reports for Juncos there in the summer. Having said that, I don't think I'd wager $1 on my guess being correct :)

Wow -- I wonder if that varies by island. I spent a couple of months on San Nicolas, and I've spent one day on Santa Cruz, but that's it.

Maybe four bad pictures would help? I'm nearly sure that these are the same bird since they are tagged in succession.
