This baby bird fell off a tree in my mom's backyard in Honduras (Central America) and we have no idea what it is and none of the locals were able to identify it. I am hoping you guys are able to help us. Thanks in advance.Attached File  Bird 3.jpg   10.94K   56 downloadsAttached File  Bird 1.jpg   86K   75 downloadsAttached File  Bird 2.jpg   4.45K   51 downloads

My guess is a juvenile green heron.

You're welcome, welcome to Whatbird! Wait for some of the others to pipe in with confirmations or proving me wrong before you settle on this bird's identity, though. :)

Definitely the genus Butorides, but I don't know whether Striated Heron gets that far north, or how to tell them apart.

My guess was also Green Heron, although I haven't seen a juvenile before. I checked my guides - if you are on the northern coast of Honduras it's a resident breeder so would be in range; but inland it's listed as a (northern) winter visitor so shouldn't be there this time of year, nor should there be breeding.

Saludos from another part of Central America!!!

My Princeton Mexico/Central America is the only one that lists the Striated Heron, and puts it only in Panama. It says they have tawnier underparts (although they don't specify that for juveniles). This bird seems to match the illustration for a juvie Green Heron.

Mrs. Q. - I'm a beginner so it would still be good if someone else can confirm!
