Hello everyone!
I went to San Francisco CA last month as our honeymoon and I saw this immature gull with some Adult Western Gulls.
I don't have enough experience to ID for Western Gull. Please help me to ID.

The bill's heavy enough, the back color seems about right, and the head's nice and white, so I'd say Western.

As a caveat, I have no in field experience with West Coast birds. This does appear to be a Western Gull based on the head shape and bill size, probably a second summer. I would, however, expect the gray on the mantle to be darker.

Grandpa, take a look at the northern race of Western Gull -- you find it from about SF north, and it's much closer to Glaucous-winged in terms of back color.
