Hi,

Just joined this site today, and it looks like my registration went through fine, but can't access members listing (I'm not that nosy--was just hoping to get a larger view of someone's cool avatar!).

What does it take to become a full-fledged (ha) member?

There are filters that are applied to new members, Just post to the forums about birds and Birding and all the filters will be removed.

Thank you! Is there a minimum amount of posts that need to be made before the restrictions are listed?

Also, I keep getting notices about posts to "topic '8' in Forum '1'" that lead to an "unable to access" error message. I assume that has to do with the same filters? I can access the ID forum just fine.

Well you have satisfied the filters now, you should not be receiving error messages at this time, unless there is some other issue. Photo attachments must be smaller than 2 mb. Other than that, your good now.

I've been trying to read through some of the stickies, so as not to keep asking the same old questions. But I'm a slow learner...

Meanwhile I do keep getting email notifications that read like this:

Kerplunk has just posted a new topic entitled "8" in forum "1".

(With different names each time.) And when I click on the link, I get this message:

[#10340] We could not determine which topic you were attempting to view.

Sigh. Doncha get tired of newbies?!

You probably have your notifications turned on. You need to go to your profile and turn off notifications.

Well, but I do want email notifications from the forums and threads I've subscribed to....??

That is different, you subscribe to those in the forums, upper right of the topic

Well, I've done that, so at least I'm doing something right.

Just went to the "Notifications Options" page in my profile, and now I have another stupid question. What does "Notification List" refer to (the first column). I understand the second two columns! (I think. )

There are two ways to get notifications, via email or via the notification button on the upper right of the main page of the forums. Just to the left of your log in name is a diminished button, If you receive a notification from a followed topic this notification will have a red number, showing the notification.

Try to mark all your profile notifications to this and see the way it works.
