While I was in San Diego, I was driving and while stopped at a red light (in what we would call "busy intersection" in South Carolina but probably would not hold the same meaning in San Diego, lol) a hawk flew right in front of me, from the post that holds the "walk, don't walk" signal. Was driving so did not have camera handy and even if I did it would not have mattered. What I noticed about him was that he was tan/white/brown and had a "mosiac tile" look on wings, body, and wide tail. Based on where he was and my vague description, does anyone know what he could have been? I thought it was such an odd place to see a hawk! thanks
What I have learned so far.... just because you think that bird is just another _____ (house sparrow, chickadee, crow or whatever you are used to seeing) look a little closer... you just might be surprised!

Sure does sound like a Red-shouldered. They are pretty common here.
