Hello All!,

Going through past photos and checking yellowlegs and I found two that I think are Solitary Sandpipers, both shot on the same day at Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware. The date was 7.8.12. I wouldn't think much of it, its not exactly an uncommon bird. However, when I go to eBird to add it to my checklist for the day it tells me it IS a rare for that time and place. Can I get a confirmation or reality check on these guys?

Can't say for the first shot, the second one clearly is one of the yellowlegs.

I agree, both shots look like yellowlegs. Neither one screams Solitary Sandpiper for me... even though they are listed as "uncommon" (which are usually seen) on the Bombay Hook bird list. How did you like it there? It's my favorite place to go birding! Did you see any night herons? There's a small rookery on Bear Swamp Pool :)

Yes, I love it there. Except for the green head flies and biting gnats! Bombay Hook just seems to be the hang out birds love. And the fox and kits!

Yeah, the bugs are pretty bad in summer, and the mosquitos are the worst in fall. But in winter and spring, theres hardly any bugs! That's my favorite time to go.
