Was treated to seeing five Humpbacks bubble net feeding.

Wow thats amazing What a rare event. Do you know what those gulls are? Or are they Kittiwakes?

Kittiwakes would have red or black legs. I'm not sure but I suspect these are glaucous-winged

I agree, these are Glaucous-winged. Glaucous would have white wingtips, Kittiwakes or any of the other large gulls would have distinct black tips to the wings.

I have shots of Kittiwakes just havent processed them as of yet, we went to a rookery full of them .

Those are some awesome pics, jtee2. Reminds me of the time I went fishing out of Monterey and had a young Gray Whale come up about 10 feet off the port side, right in front of me. That was one of my favorite fishing experiences of all time.

Thank you much. Believe me its not easy swinging around a 500MM lens on a boat that is swaying side to side and up and down at the same time . I got my workout that day for sure

I remember seeing the Gray Whales in California also when I was very young ,wish that I had the camera gear I have now back then ,but digital was not even thought of back then . I can imagine seeing them 10 feet away ..wow what a sight definitely unforgettable .

Aint that the truth!! At one point out there while trying to photograph the nesting puffins I thought I was going into the water. There were definitely some massive swells out there the day we went out.

We went on a whale watch trip this past week in the NE and what a wonderful experience. The bubble feeding was an incredible opportunity to see wildlife at its best. Watching the whales was unbelieveable, but for all of us bird lovers, it added a whole new level. The birds were actually stealing fish from their mouths. I feel blessed to have had the chance to see this. I had a bucket list item taken care of and I would recommend this to anyone. I wasn't able to get great pics due to several factors, but the experience was incredible despite only the sub-standard pictures. By the way, these are incredible pics.

For sure! I was on the back of the boat with both hands on the camera getting whale shots and realized that I was the only one not holding on with TWO hands.

Just got back from Alaska and was treated to the same sight of the feeding humpbacks. We were in Juneau. Hope you don't mind the pictures being posted here.

Several years ago, while taking off from the airport on Maui, the captain called our attention to a group of Humpbacks bubble netting off the coast, and what we saw was a very big circle of light blue bubbles with a small baby Humpback watching from the edge. Classroom situation! Unforgettable, really. Every time I take off from there I hope to see the same thing again.
