Found this feather at the local mini-marsh. The area is usually covered in water, just not in summer so I was able to wander around more. I know it gets many different visitors...so I have no clue where to start looking to match this feather to the bird. Was black with white spots, found in Southern California (Torrance).

Looks like a Nuttall's Woodpecker wing feather to me.

Wow, had no clue there was a feather atlas! Will have to bookmark that one :)

Looks like Nuttall's is a match. Sadly, woodpecker didn't occur to me. Kept thinking it MUST be from some type of duck/visiting shorebird.

Bookmarked for me too. That's awesome!

EDIT: Finally confirmed a Killdeer feather that I've had on my desk for months. Now a coworker is bringing in a feather from home for me to ID.
