Hello all!

Yesterday I went from seeing a rail once in my life to seeing six in one day. All shots were taken at either Bombay Hook NWR or Prime Hook NWR both in Delaware.

While I will refrain from telling you what I think these are, let me just say that Clapper Rails (Eastern) are expected though not seen in great numbers. King rails are seen but not very often at all. Clapper Rail (Western Group) would be quite rare find. Would you also note if you believe the individual in question is a juvenile. Thanks!

The fourth was what I thought was a King Rail. I also thought the first was a Juvenile Clapper Rail.

Fourth is nice and rufous, which supports King Rail, but the only real field mark is the back feathers, and we can't see that in this shot. All the rest look like good Clappers.
Total birds seen: 370
Latest Lifers:
Lark Sparrow, Roseate Spoonbill, Painted Bunting

Here is the best image I have of the back of suspect #4 from above. Crossing my fingers for a King, it would be another lifer! But give it to me straight, I can take it... ;)

Its hard to see in most of the photos, but if you can tell in your originals, the Clapper Rail's legs should be fairly gray, and the King Rail's legs should be more of a yellow green. The problem is mud and dirt and even lighting may make a lot of things look more gray than they really are. Maybe that will help in the identification process.
