We have a wild duck that comes around every now and then in our neighborhood. I don't have any idea what breed it is, but I would love to know!

This is a domestic mallard. There are many of these that are living in the wild, either escaped or released - people get their kids ducklings for Easter, not realizing that they grow into ducks. <_< When they're not cute anymore, they dump them in a pond.

Breed refers to varieties within a species of domestic animal - breeds are created by selective breeding by man. Species are a classification within a genus, like mallard, Canada goose, northern cardinal, etc.

Liam might be along to tell you what breed of mallard this is!

Agree with domestic mallard. Probably Buff x Pekin.

Welcome to Whatbird. :)
