Are you at HHI, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or somewhere in between?

Sure sounds like a Loggerhead Shrike.

No, but they do have a thin eyestripe. Just sayin, it's about the only thing you could mistake it for. ^_^

Hunting Island is a really neat place! Do you live in the area or just visiting?

Hey, one can easily mistake a Loggerhead Shrike for a Gray Kingbird (*cough GreatHorn*). ;)

If you go again, check out Savannah NWR near Hardeeville. In Summer you can get Purple Gallinule, Mottled Duck, Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork, and maybe if you're lucky, even a Gray Kingbird. Loggerhead Shrikes are pretty common here also.

Northern Harriers.

But there are also a few Wilson's Snipe, Common Gallinule, Northern Shoveler, Snowy Egret, Kinglets, OC Warblers, Yellowthroats. The usual Wintering birds found in the south.
