I've seen some members have "yardlist" under their avatars. How do I make my own? Or is it just a collection of photos that I make? Thanks! :)

A Yardlist is simply a list of birds you have seen in or from your yard.

But, is there a place on the site/profile to put one? Or is it just something you keep yourself? Thanks!

You could submit your sitings to eBird.org and it will keep track of your list for you, or you could keep it yourself. I use eBird for all of my sightings, not just my yard list.

Life list: 158
Yard list: 82 - latest yard bird : Wood Duck
Latest Lifers:  Ring-billed Gull, EVENING GROSBEAK, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, Snow Goose, Canada Warbler

You can add a "signature" to your posts by clicking on your user name in the upper right corner of the screen (next to "sign out"), a box with various comands will appear, click on "my settings" in that box and then on "signiture" on the left side of the screen. You can write anything you want (list totals, quotes, etc.). While on the "profile settings" page you can also change your member title (the name that appears above your avatar). Just type whatever title you want in the box in the "profile information" section, just above your birthday.

a yard list in a way is like a life list. in That it is what you want it to be. most people say what you see and verify from your back yard. but others also include fly overs of hawks or eagles or ducks or geese ect. and others consider it as your neighborhood or the area close around to where you live. myself i live on a gravel road with some other homes and a loop road that i walk daily and the same birds i see in the area are often the same birds i see from my back window. I keep my own yard list and try to get photos when i can to help verify but if i see birds that i am sure of where they are in my yard or the neighbors yards or on the power poles crossing thru our area..

I would like to ask a question here. When there is a bird, let's say a Cardinal, with obvious differences between male and female, do most people count that as 2 birds or 1 for their list if they see both? Obviously, with say a Tufted Titmouse, there is no difference, so it's just 1 bird for the list. Just wondering, if anyone would like to offer their advice.

Typically only bird species are counted, however, some people do count sexes. I have heard of some people keeping a species life list and putting (M), (F) or (M,F) after the entries for sexually dimorphic species to show which sexes they have seen. Sexual dimorphism is the term for species that have distinguishable sexes. As has been said many times, though, it's your list you can count birds any way you want to.

Thanks for your input. Figured I might as well start my list out the "right" way.
