Hi All,

I saw this goose at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY today-- August 11, 2012--and am having trouble identifying it. As you can see, the goose is nesting--the nest is alongside a creek, amid various low-level plants. This was the only goose seen with the markings you see--brownish/off-white body, yellowish beak with orange hues. Nearby were several Canada Geese and several white geese (maybe Snow Geese, though e-bird shows no record of Snow Geese in these parts for August). Any idea what kind of bird this is?

Thank you

It's a domestic goose - not sure which kind. The white ones you saw were probably domestics too. Did you see if they had any black on their wings?

A friend of mine said it may be a Graylag Goose. Would it have been introduced as a park bird or something like that?

The white geese didn't have black markings on their wings, as far as I could tell. Maybe domesticated Snow Geese?

Domesticated, but not snow geese.

This is a domestic Swan x Greylag Goose hybrid.

Just to make it clear, Liam means swan goose x greylag goose. The way it's written, it looks like it's half swan. Swan goose is a domesticated species, nothing to do with actual swans.

Yes, I should have clarified, Brown Chinese Goose (Swan Goose breed) and Greylag Goose hybrid.
