Hi,

This woodpecker doesn't have the spotting on the belly, could it be a Downy?...or is it a Nuttall's, or???. Here's a not so great pic :

Thank You!

P.S. Here's my pic of a Nuttall's for comparison.

Did it have that square white patch on its back?

I never saw the back, it didn't stay long enough for me to get a shot...I'll have to watch out for it. I definitely thought the call sounded different from the Nuttall's....I hear the Nuttall's all the time in my backyard.

The supercilium is too large and the belly too clean for Nuttall's, so yes, a Downy.

You're Nuttall's shot is pretty darn good! But it can't hold a candle to my absolutely totally amazing Nuttall's Woodpecker shot! ;)

I think you need to clean your lens, Liam - there's a big dark speck of dirt on it.
