Hi Folks,

The following 3 shots were taken near Hamilton, Ontario this past weekend (Aug 10-13)

I'm sure about the Osprey I was lucky enough to see on Saturday...

But this one I spotted the day before has me stumped. Some kind of gnatcatcher perhaps?

On Sunday I saw this one, a type I've seen around before. Before this summer I'd never seen one & have no idea what it is

Any help in identifying the two mystery birds is appreciated.
(apologies for no photos actually in the thread. Apparently I can't post photos from my gallery to here)

I agree with the Kingbird, the first one you posted wondering about looks like the nuthatcher. They are visable in the RBG around Hamilton. We have seen a fed a few of them there. They are more tree clingers and like to look at you upside down alot!

I can agree on Eastern Kingbird.

Second one may be a Blue-gray gnatcatcher.

I want to say it's a blue-gray gnatcatcher, but I don't know if it has enough of an eyering for that to be correct.

It is a blue-grey gnatcatcher. You can see the white outer tail feathers, and if you look closely, you can see how long the tail is. That, along with the eyering and the color, are pretty diagnostic.

Thank you all!

A Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! That was the ID I'd settled on but wasn't sure enough to put it out there. I did get more pics of this one and another it was obviously with but they're mostly silhouettes due to fading light conditions and show little real detail. We (my wife, dog & I) were lucky as they chased flying bugs around the same tree the Eastern Kingbird was in for about 10 minutes. The EK was catching bugs too, as was a woodpecker of some sort and another total mystery bird. FOUR different species in the same tree at the same time. (maybe some major bug hatch was going on, they were all feeding heartily.)

Thanks again!

So excited that I looked at the pic and knew it was an Eastern Kingbird!!! It feels like I am finally learning something in birding :)
