My first thought was Mockingbird also, mainly for what looks like wingbars, but the bill looks so big as do the legs. Yesterday, here in Panama, I saw a flock of Great-tailed grackles feeding. A few of the young were leucistic/mottled and weird looking (knew I should have taken a few shots!). Am I just seeing things wrong as far as bill size goes with this bird or could it be a grackle of some kind with the tail feathers missing?

That's an interesting though, Suzanne. I had the same feeling, that the bill on this guy is simply too big for a Mockingbird -- but for it to get the color pattern that well?

I guess I'll have to say I don't really know.

Me, also: I first thought it was frowzy N. Mockingbird, but then the bill looked too big and maybe Grackle-ish. Other than that, I got nothin'.

Looking again, I think Suzanne is right with grackle. The bill, legs, and feet fit better. The plumage is without doubt Mockingbird-like, though.

So what does all that mean?
It's a leucistic common grackle?
a half grackle, half mockingbird?

We are implying that this is a grackle with such an amount of leucism that it looks like a mockingbird, but does not have mockingbird genes in it at all.
