These birds have been coming to my backyard feeder here in coastal South Carolina. I recognize the finch beaks but these two are obviously changing their colors.
What kind are they? Purple Finches? Are they juvies becoming adults? Thanks.

I believe these are juvenile cowbirds molting into their big kid plumage.

Thanks suprm2001! I've just been checking some photos on Google and I believe you are right about juvy cowbirds. Quite a transformation they are going through. Do you think, as do I, that the one on the right is a male and the other female? Anyone else have thoughts? Thanks.

I believe they are both males, the one on the right is just much further along in the molt than the one on the left. A female wouldn't have any black at all.
