There were two of them eating striped sunflower seeds on my feeder in central Maine about half an hour ago. They had dark eyes like an eastern bluebird jeuvy, same color, shape and length of beak as bluebird. The easier one to see was obviously growing new feathers, which were about the same color as a purple finch. They were not purple finches, tho. We have them also.
Thanks,
GG
Same size as young bluebird, more heavily spotted, purple molting

Possibly an Immature Purple or House Finch molting into their adult feathers (the molt goes from about July-Nov). Not really sure if much else could have that color in Maine during the summer, but someone else may have an idea.

Okay, thanks for your response!
Does make sense about nobody else being that same color, since I've never seen purple grosbeaks here. Beak was wrong for them, anyway.
