I saw this bird today at Matchedash Bay, Ontario and am not sure what bird it is.

I'm guessing American Bittern or Green Heron.

EDIT: Nevermind, agree with Green Heron. :)

It just looks really small for a green heron, juvenile possibly?

Size can be a tricky thing to judge in the field, especially with flying birds. On the other hand, herons, like most birds, don't leave the nest until they're just about fully grown.
