I took this little guys pic in the meadowlands in new jersey aug 19th. Not sure if its a sandpiper or sandling....but im guessing...still a newbie....and ideas

I don't think it is a Sanderling. In all ages there should be some kind of dark shoulder I think, and this bird has none.

I agree it's not a Sanderling. I can't come up with any molt scenario that would leave that solid block of black on the scapulars, and the fine streaking on the lower flanks doesn't fit Sanderling either. Trouble is, I can't really get everything on this bird to fit Semipalmated, either.

I too tried to make this a Semipalmated. Molting this early, plus the barrel chested look, makes me believe Western.
