Hey all!

This one seems so familiar but I just can't pin it down. First it has pink legs which nothing seems to have that I'm looking at. Beak too small for Blue Grosbeak, wingbars too bold for Indigo Bunting, beak too conical for Oriole, the plain belly and wing bars seem to rule out all the finches... Closest match I can find is a Lazuli Bunting but that is so far out of range it is laughable and the leg color is still wrong. Free shot here, make me feel dumb by pointing out what common bird this obviously is... :P

This was taken in Howard County, Maryland today, 9.1.12.

After a brief Google Images search I also agree. Thank you because I never would have figured that out!

American Goldfinch. Especially this time of year. They are all molting, growing or getting their sex together of something else. Some Lesser Goldfinches do the same kind of thing. Just when you thing you've "got it" (naming birds) another bird comes along and makes things even more interesting.

We've got a ton of Americans and Lessers right now & they are a molting mess! I'm surprised they can fly.

Hmmm my Lessers keep their color all year. However my birdbaths are full of feathers these days and the Great-Tailed Grackles are starting to lose their tails.
Latest lifer: Pacific Parakeet! Right behind my house!
