Okay! So for the first time tonight, I got the D800 out and did video, instead of still photographs. Does anyone else do similar- what are your experiences with SLR Video? preferences? good? bad? Tips? Obviously I made it a little bit too dark, will need to fix that later. But aside from that?

Forgive the stuff at the end, it was me messing around with the cam (and keep your volume down, unless you prefer to hear cars passing by me in the street!) but, green heron grooming:

Sorry. Tried to post as an image, but isn't working...?

Taking video is something I always think about afterwards, and wish I would have done. I just get so focused taking the pictures trying to get the perfect one.

Occasionally I do remember, and have only taken a few videos. I think the most important part is to have some sort of support, otherwise handholding with a 400mm lens for video is bound to induce some motion sickness. If you upload to YouTube, there is the ability to do image stabilization, which definitely does help.

Here is one of the very few videos I have ever taken, and the only one I have posted anywhere. It is a Five-striped Sparrow!

Latest lifers: Nelson's Sparrow, Upland Sandpiper, Clay-colored Sparrow, Cerulean Warbler, Bobolink, Henslow's Sparrow, Philadelphia Vireo, Kirtland's Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, American Woodcock, Monk Parakeet, Field Sparrow, Blue-headed Vireo, Black-billed Cuckoo, Veery

ABA Year list: 357

Trip reports: Midwest 5/2013, Hawaii 2/2013, Florida 9-10/2012, Monterey 8/2012, Salton Sea 7/2012, SE AZ 6/2012, Chicago 5/2012, Arizona 3/12, Arizona 12/11, Chicago 9/2011, Monterey 8/11, Arizona 12/10

That is way cute :D I'm having so much trouble with my lens lately (long story, trying to save up for a new one) that instead of taking useless photos, i've taken to doing video instead. I still have proof that I saw them, and along the way get to see them doing some neat things like stretching, spreading wings, etc! Everything I do is on my tripod, so support isn't an issue. Thinking of buying the Nikkor 300mm and getting extension tubes to go with it...
