are the of the same bird? 2 looks like a yellow bellied flycatcher

Yep, Yellow-bellied with that strong eye-ring, low contrast face and bright yellow wash on the belly and throat. Nice find for MD!

I'm thinking Least Flycatcher on this one. The lighting in the second picture is making the bird appear brighter, and all empids can show some yellow on the bellies during fall.

I'm thinking Least Flycatcher on this one. The lighting in the second picture is making the bird appear brighter, and all empids can show some yellow on the bellies during fall.


What points you to a Least, then? In my experience, they tend to be among the drabbest/grayest colored of the empids and show a lot more contrast between the pale throat and the face. Never 100% with these guys, though.
