maybe just a molting mallard? light and pic is bad I know... but it looked different than the other mallards around

Looks kinda like a Wood Duck to me!

hmm that could be.. I saw so many mallards flying by wasnt thinking wood duck..

thanks,,, wood duck didnt cross my mind, I saw the light colored head and was hoping something new, but all I saw were mallards all day so figured it was just a molting one

with the white trailing edge of the wing, in front of the blue, i vote for mallard

After a quick google image search it looks like Wood Ducks can show white by the speculum. And the head shape and facial pattern looks perfect for an eclipse male.with the white trailing edge of the wing, in front of the blue, i vote for mallard
