Bird is beautiful, video is lousy. It's at the far range of my zoom, under a dark oak canopy, with hand held camcorder, so it had a hard time focusing. I need to get back to this place and try to find this bird again for better video. It's a beautiful bird, about the size of a cardinal. Anyone know what it is? I was thinking Tanager but can't find one like it's color on the net. Also considered Oriel but no black head or wings... Im stumped. A female of a brighter colored male? I'm guessing it migrates and the window of opportunity to video it again is not going to last forever. I do hope I can find it again before it goes.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks pssweet! I typed in young male summer tanager and there it was...or at least very similiar. I love this site. I've learned so much in such a short time. Before when I was out taping nature, I concentrated on hunting larger critters. Thanks to this site, I'm finding myself really excited when I video a bird I'm not familiar with since I know I'll get it identified in no time!

Now if I could just get good video of this fellow...

That's a good vid by my standards! So nice, I watched it twice. :)

Thank you Cestma. That's nice of you to say. It's such a lovely bird though, I would like to have a clearer video of him for the DVD of local wildlife I'm putting together for our community. Alas, it's raining today though and my camera doesn't like the rain. ;-)
