Taken today at Fort Simcoe State Park in central Washington. I'm drawing a blank on this one. Any help is appreciated. Mac.

How about a Spotted Towhee? No orange showing from the back, but that's what it looks like.

The shape looked like a Spotted Towhee to me, but I decided to run it through the WhatBird search thing, which I've never had any luck with. I used shape (perching), prominent color (black), bill shape (conical), secondary color (white), and that's what fell out.

The head shape seems too rounded for a Spotted Towhee. Also, the eye color looks black, and Spotted Towhees have very obvious reddish eyes. My first impression was a Lark Bunting, but not sure if Juvi males have spotted wings like this shot.

Ditto... Don't think its a towhee. Not 100% sure on what it is though.

Fox sparrow was my first impression. I know they're really dark in the NW.

Fox Sparrows have pink bills, even the sooty NW birds. I think this is indeed a Spotted Towhee -- they can have dark eyes as immatures.

Spotted Towhee for me too. Just one of those odd looking poses.
