All of these were taken this morning (9/15/12) at Delta Ponds in Eugene, Oregon. I think I have most of them right but the first two ducks are giving me a bit of trouble. None of these are good shots, in fact they were all kind of far away so these are 100% crops with the exception of the shorebirds shot. Thanks, I'd be lost without help from you folks.

1. Common Yellowthroat (female)

6. Mallard hen - the head coloring makes her look a bit like a Pintail hen, plus the dark wings are confusing.

7. Mallard hen - when I took the photo I thought it was an American Wigeon hen.

8. Wood Duck (female) - the angle of the head is awkward but with the white eye ring what else could it be?

Confirm 1 and 2, though I think 1 is a juvie male - you can see some of the black mask coming in.
3a and b. Confirm, though I'd say juvies - females should have a complete breast band
4. not sure, but I think you're right
5. not sure if greater or lesser, and confirm killdeer
6. and 7. not mallards - not sure what they are - maybe green-winged teal for 7
8. definitely wood duck

I agree. 6 and 7 are GWTE based on the pale, buffy vent.

Thank you, shoveler. On the Yellowlegs, I reflexively think that every one I see is Greater because I am told they predominate in my neck of the woods. I was choking a bit on 6 & 7 as Mallards so perhaps I am beginning to learn a bit.

OK, thanks, Barn Swallow. I can see what you mean about the mask coming in on 1, I had not considered that. Just to be clear, 3a and 3b are of the same individual.

I agree. 6 and 7 are GWTE based on the pale, buffy vent.

Thanks, Liam. What's your opinion on the yellowlegs?

The yellowlegs are all Greater. Notice the long, slightly upturned, pale-based bills.

Yes, forgive my foggy brain, just had surgery on my jaw. There's also a Killdeer for size comparison right by them.

Ah, I was hoping for lesser since I am not sure if I have any of those. Oh well, at least the Black-throated Gray Warbler was a new one for me. Thanks! :)
