Was really happy to see these two lost birds today in Los Angeles, CA.

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

Beautiful...where in So Cal?

Both at Sepulveda Basin. Ovenbird is on the west side near Balboa Lake, and the flycatcher is on the east end by the Burbank and Woodley intersection.

Well this one has been extremely reliable and cooperative over the last few days. Best chance to get good looks at one without having to take an airplane.

It was a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher I saw in a semi remote area here when I was out hunting two years ago that got me back into birding. I never did report it. Nice pics Guy!

Thanks, it is an awesome bird that I have really been wanting to see for a long time. They certainly don't come around too often, and had just resigned it to a 'some day' bird. Didn't even expect to see it, since no one had reported on it in a while. Thought it must have been gone already.

Yeah, it definitely is a bird to get you back into gear.

Man... You see a scissor tail, way out of range, and I drove through their range without seeing one.

Well come on up! She(?) apparently has been there for about a month now. Initially only had only outer tail retrice, and was called the 'Single-tailed Flycatcher' jokingly. It looks like it has now grown back, That seems pretty fast to me!

Not out of range that much, but eBird says that Brown Pelicans aren't found at Lake Wholford. . . but they were there! (had to click "show rarities!!")

There's apparently an irruption of Red-breasted Nuthatches going on, as they're being found all over Florida in recent weeks, and they've been staying put long enough for lots of people to find them again and again.

Here's one of a pair that I saw on Honeymoon Island yesterday...




I also saw another one today at Fort DeSoto Park. They've also been seen on the other side of the state at Merritt Island NWR.

I am waiting to get a RB Nuthatch in my yard...convinced it is going to happen this winter!
