If you are not too far away from Wallkill NY the Shawangunk(sp) Grasslands Preserve is loaded with kestrels all summer long.. its a great place for hawks owls and grassland birds.. the kestrels will put on a show for you.. sometimes a dozen or more in the air hunting at once.. Northern harriers, rough legged hawks and short eared owls will be taking over soon

I was in the same boat as you, eagerly waiting my first AMKE. I finally got it about two weeks ago and it too was a beautiful orange and blue male. Congrads!

They are one of the fastest birds Ive ever watched fly! It came it so FAST landed and took off!! Hopefully Ill get a better shot some day, and I hope that everyone gets to see one!!! What AMAZING birds!!! :D I still cant believe the weekend I had, and considering how much rain we had, as soon as it was over everything came out, so as soon as the rain stops, Im grabbing my camera and going looking!!!
