I live in Buean Vista, CO in the Collegiate Peaks range of the Rockies. For the past few days have been seeing small flocks (5 - 20 birds) flying south west. They are about 10 inches long, brillant white body and head, black wings and tail, white underside, short, square tail. They never perch so hard to get a pic. In 7 years here have never seen these migrating birds. Will try to get a photo to post

Thanks

It's awfully early for Snow Buntings in Colorado, I think, and they wouldn't look gleaming white this time of year -- they show a good deal of tan coloration right now. If you weren't seeing multiple flocks, I'd be thinking about someone's pigeons. As is, maybe you're underestimating the size, and they're Snow Geese?

So after spending most of day researching this bird, I believe it is a Clark's Nutcracker.

I can't help with the id, but I did want to say where you live is one of our most favorite spots on earth. We've discussed retiring there some day.

LOL. I was going to suggest that, but I didn't think I you would consider their gray color "brilliant white."

It could be that it was (as usual) a beautiful, sunny, cloudless day and the birds were in flight.

We actually own 12 tourist cabins in BV, Pinon Court. Come see us sometime.
