Taken at Summit Lake State Park, near New Castle Indiana. I returned to the section of the lake where I found a few Greater Yellowlegs a few week prior thinking they might still be around. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised with not one, but three Wilson's Snipes. My kayak proved to be an important tool in getting close enough to these shy birds. I am still amazed at how close I am able to get to my subjects using my kayak as a platform to shoot from.

This photo was shot with a Canon 7D, Canon 400mm F5.6 L USM lens. Shutter Speed was 1/320 second, at F11, and ISO 200.

That is an amazing pic of a notoriously shy species! Most of my sightings of them have been the "almost stepped on them" type, with them suddenly bursting forth in flight and zig-zagging away.

Thanks everyone! There was a 4th one just off to the right of this photo that was spooked by my approach. I think the other three were wondering why that tree (me) was getting closer to them.

Nice camo rig! I haven't totally camo'd my kayak, and my paddles are bright white which is a problem. Are your paddles off-the-shelf or did you camo them?

Very nice photos! The camo set up works out pretty well. The section of camo that attaches to my camera is longer toward the back so I can throw the extra over my head like shooting from an antique bellowed camera with the black cloth. I put real tree camo duct tape on the face of the bright yellow paddle.
