Connecticut River area iin ct. near long island sound, on a marsh surrounded by woodland. This may not be an unusual bird but I just could not reconize the song It came from the area hear the marsh. It was very loud and melodius: deedle de dee, deedle de dee, deedle de dee, etc. and then a pause and then starts again. The 'e' is a long 'e'. There were no other side sounds to it and it did not vary. I heard it two nights in a row and it only lasted a short time.
Thanks
bird with melodious voice at dusk

The habitat and your description of the song seem to fit for the bird linked. I've heard them singing in fall.

Yes The yellow throat sings exactly as what I remember hearing. Mine was louder (I am over 100 yards away and it penetrated the dusk , so to speak) The sample I listened to on the link seemed more shallow. But then, this is a sample plus this was a few days ago and memory is not dependable. Unless there is another bird with the same configuration of song as the Common Yellow Throat, I would say this is the bird.
Thank you very much. This is a great sight with good people ready to respond to those of us who are bird lovers but not experts.
