Had a great encounter with an Owl today. Just came upon it perched in a low bush about 15 feet off the lane. He stayed and let me photograph him for a good spell. I'm not sure if this is a Great-horned or a Long-eared. I'm leaning toward Long-eared because of the elongated facial disc and the extensive white edging along the "nasal" area. Thanks.

I forgot to mention this was taken today near Fremont, CA at Coyote Hills Regional Park.

Long-eared! Beautiful.

He looks a lot like me, but more kooky, in a good way.

I'm SO jealous! I've only ever gotten a shot of a Barred Owl and even that was several years ago

It's a great place. Check out some of the Ebird reports. Some people see an insane amount of different species there.

That's how all my daytime owl sightings have been (except Burrowing Owl.) That and checking out what the noisy crows are mobbing. Long-eareds are usually pretty good about not being seen during the daytime. I'd bet you could go out there 100 more times and not see one.

i think I saw a great horned the other day here in eastern Kansas but I wasn't sure if it might be a long eared.
