How are you ruling out a Sharp-shinned. Definitely a tough picture and I don't think I could be sure, but I'm getting more of a Sharpie feel from the GISS.

I have the same question as Billy. I did not see it fly. I tried to get outside and get closer...but it was already gone.

The face pattern here says female Coop -- a Sharpie would have a distinct contrast between the rufous auriculars and the gray nape.

Sharpie would be way less common in that location, in addition to the nape difference that P pointed out. I haven't seen a single Sharpie yet this year, and I'm in SoCal too.
