5>and finally, found this one out in the countryside yesterday, well away from any houses. I had to get quite close before I finally figured out what it was up there at the top of the power pole.

You have snow there? It's 80º in MI! (I'd almost prefer snow.)

(Plus, why do cool sparrows never come to my feeders?)

Depends on where you are in California. ;)

Here's the current snow cover.

Agreed. Good thing the coldfront's about to come through.
Somebody in Allegan county had a Harris's in their yard last May, so keep your eyes peeled. If you do find one expect some chasers (me) to stop by your neighborhood. ;)

Chipping? Good thing I asked, because I still can't see Chipping, even after being told. I would never have guessed that, even.

Thanks. Can't figure out why it is that, but I will take your word for it.

Snow? Yup, (it is still out there, even if it doesn't show up on Liam's map) Second one this year, first one was the first weekend of Oct. (It was 70 degrees here yesterday, though. Beautiful T-shirt weather.) Today, winter coat, shivering and frozen toes! ... and there I stood with wet feet and a camera, trying to stop shivering long enough to snap a picture without the camera shaking.

Cool about the Harris's!

And wow, is there ever a front coming in. This afternoon there were hundreds of gulls flying over. Toward the lake (the big one)--does that make sense?

C'mon snow! Your almost here! Though the Indian Summer has been brilliant the past week. Just right for a walk!

Good timber does not grow with ease:

The stronger wind, the stronger trees.

The further sky, the greater length,

The more the storm, the more their strength.
