I wanted to confirm that this is a Common Raven, and not a crow; this photo was taken in mid-September of this year.
The bird was alone, lazing in a tree in a secluded forest park in RI. It seemed to me significantly larger in size than
the crows that I see, and the beak seems larger as well...

Looks like a Crow to me, but it is a bit hard to tell from this pic. Based on tail shape and what I can see of the bill.

When I saw the pic i immediately though "Northern Goshawk" , it just doesn't look like a corvid to me

okay, probably just a crow. I see it nowMuch too dark for any hawk you would find in RI.
Imo, definitely a Corvid, probably a crow with that tail. I believe Raven have a more rounded, wedge-shaped tail.
