My friend Leslie took this picture this past summer. Freeport, IL. Not sure which it is.

Cooper's Hawk. Pale nape, not so skinny legs, forward set eye with a "fierce" expression.

Agree with Cooper's. In addition to the ID points BillyPilgrim gave, a summer Sharpie anywhere in Illinois would be a very good find.

That is a fantastic photo of a Cooper's Hawk. I have one or two constantly in my yard trying to get the feeder birds and the ground feeder birds and I never get pictures this good. Congratulations to the photographer.
