Water Birds (Damn Ring-Billed)

6 posts in this topic

Can anyone identify any of the birds in these images? These were shot this morning in Hammond, IN on Lake Michigan.

Looking for anything besides ring-billed... (But I know they are in there too...)

Thank you!

4 looks like a few red-breasted mergansers, and some goldeneyes in the background of the fifth picture

I only see one Ring-bill (lower left on #6). The other gulls all look like Herrings, and I agree with IvoryBillHope on the ducks.

Thank you, I thought the birds on the right in number 6 were ring-billed. New to the water/shore birds. Is #2 a juvenile Herring? It looks so different than the others.

Thank you!

Yes, the bird in #2 is a 1st-winter Herring (technically, they molted out of their juvenile plumage back in August and September). The birds in #6 are a bit difficult to see, I was going by the relative sizes as much as anything, but I still think the bird on the right's a Herring.
