Ferruginous Hawk Dark maybe?

Taken today in Colorado Eastern Plains. Is this a Dark Morph Ferruginous or something else like a Red-tailed Hawk?

Looks like a ferrug with that gape, but not sure.

Yeah, that gape rivals "Batman's Joker!" I'd call that a Ferrugionous based on that alone.

That gape is what had me leaning Ferrug also. Thanks though because I was not sure.

Based on the extended gape and although my guide does not say anything about this, the image of the dark-morph shows a white spot between the chest and neck. I agree with Dark Morph Ferruginous.

betiam- not this trip on our State Bird but I do have a couple shots of them taken at Cherry Creek State Park last summer. Last summer was the first time I had ever seen our State bird.

Agree, for what its worth. looks like a young one with that yellow eye and plain plumage.
